One of the wonderful aspects of living in Granville Beach is its midway proximity to the Upper and Lower Bay of Fundy. Here the great span of the Annapolis Valley and Bay Shore is within an hour’s drive east or west. The Atlantic coast is within an 80 minute drive. From this vantage point, you can sample much of the region’s geology, history, cultural and coastal beauty, and still make it home in time for dinner or an evening snack. Below are suggested tours, though there are plenty of other options depending your schedule and traveling preferences.

Whale Watching Tours

The Bay of Fundy’s great tides create a rich ecosystem that supports abundant wildlife, whales and seabirds. The waters off the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, from Brier Island up to Digby Neck, are important feeding areas. This area of the Bay of Fundy is also located on the Atlantic Flyway, a major migration route for many species of sea birds, shorebirds and waterfowl. Lunenburg

This UNESCO World Heritage Site – with its narrow streets and unique architecture – is also the home port of Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador, the Bluenose II. Explore the region’s fishing history by visiting Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic. 86 minute drive from the cottage.

Mavillette Beach Provincial Park

One of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Nova Scotia. A perfect beach for swimming, picnicking and walking. Bring your binoculars, beach attire and a field guide for a memorable day outing. Driving time: 1-1.5 hours.

The French Shore from St. Bernard to Cape St. Mary
Home to Nova Scotia’s largest French Acadian population, the area offers awe-inspiring Acadian churches, beautiful ocean views and the grand Cape St. Mary’s Lighthouse. Here Acadian French is spoken, a distinct dialect with many old-French words. You’ll see Stella Maris – the Acadian flag – flying from many of the houses. Be sure to visit Rendezvous de la Baie interpretive centre in Church Point to get a good sense of the remarkable history of the Acadian culture.
